Warning to our Readers

It has been brought to our attention that a web design company
purporting to be affiliated to Our Dogs and Our Cats
has been canvassing readers and advertisers for business.
We would like to make it clear that we have no connections
with the company concerned and would advise readers not to give
credit or debit card details to callers if in any doubt. |

We have now left Oxford Road Station Approach after 90 years in the same building! The move went as well as can be expected but there were teething troubles with the phones and BT!

MAIL TO BE RE-DIRECTED
Prepaid envelopes bearing the ‘Oxford Road Station Approach’ address can still be used for the next 12 months as arrangements are in place to transfer all mail to our new offices. Please take into account however that re-directed post might take an additional day to reach us.

Summer schedules on the way

ALTHOUGH THE SUMMER season is several months away, schedules for some of the early outdoor shows are already available. WELKS and National Dog Show schedules have already dropped through our letter boxes – and Bath’s schedule is available to download from www.dog.biz
As usual, all the general (and group) championship show schedules will be reviewed here in Newsround – and of course they will also be advertised in the OUR DOGS Classifieds section at the back of the paper – and I will do my best to remind you about the closing dates as they draw near.
WELKS, the first of our outdoor shows, will take place at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern, over three days at the end of April. Gundogs and toy breeds will be judged on Friday 27, pastoral and utility breeds on Saturday 28, and hounds, working breeds and terriers on Sunday 29. The show will open at 7.30am each day, dogs will be received at any time, and the majority of judging will start at 10am (certain breeds will start at 9am or 9.30am, depending on the entry – these will be advised with passes, so do check the times when you receive your passes); no stakes classes will start before 12 noon.
Entry fees are £21 first entry for breeds with CCs (up by £1 on last year), £15 first entry for non-CC breeds, variety classes and dogs NFC (same as in 2006); subsequent entries with the same dog remain at £3, as do the fees for catalogues which are £3 pre-paid (to be collected by 12.30pm) or £4 on the day. Admission for visitors will be £4 adults and £2 children and senior citizens; car parking will be free of charge (access will be through the brown, green and red gates only). Provision for disabled drivers will be made in the red and brown car parks.
There will be a tent for unentered dogs in the brown car park, manned by supporters of the A1 Petline charity – if you use this facility please do remember to make a reasonable donation. (A warning that WELKS committee intend to refuse entries for future shows from exhibitors found to the satisfaction of the committee to have left dogs in a distressed condition in cars.)
For those of you wishing to travel by train, the nearest station is Great Malvern, situated at Barnards Green, which is 2 miles from the showground.
The tent/caravan site will be operated by the Three Counties Ag Society, so advance booking will not be necessary; the site will be open from Wednesday April 25 until 11am on Monday April 30; charges are approximately £8 per night. To find out more you should contact the showground office direct on 01684 584900.
I didn’t spot any overseas judges; BIS will be judged by Miss Jean Lanning (there is no competition for BPIS).
Paper entries close on Wednesday March 14; on-line entries until midnight on Wednesday March 21 (at www.fossedata.co.uk), so you have plenty of time to get a schedule – from the secretary, Mrs Sheila Jakeman, on 01608 659369; alternatively you can download one from www.fossedata.co.uk
