Blackpool Show abandoned

IN AN unprecedented move the committee of Blackpool championship show was forced to abandon its championship show last weekend as gales battered the Fylde coast. The showground was evacuated in the middle of the last day without breed judging, groups and a best in show being declared.

Speaking to the local paper Steve Hall, secretary of Blackpool show, said: "There must have been around 3,000 people with 3,000 dogs there. It's 12 months work wrecked in five minutes - disappointing is an understatement."

BEST IN SHOW –
THE WORLD OF SHOW DOGS AND SHOW DOGS
by Bo Bengston

Best in Show

Bo Bengtson's spectacular new book is the first one ever published to deal comprehensively with all aspects of the international sport of showing dogs. Its 656 pages, illustrated with more than 700 photographs, represents his greatest contribution to dogs in his fifty years in the sport.

This is far more than just a book about dog shows: it tells the history of purebred dogs as never before. Its brilliant prose complimented with stunning photographs spanning more than a century.

It includes the first data compilation of all the top dogs in the United States and United Kingdom each year and explains what judges are looking for, how to become a handler and the breeder's role. It also spotlights the most successful judges, handlers and breeders and discusses why some breeds win and others don't. A must for all dog show enthusiasts!

Atilla du Clos de la Prère

Atilla du Clos de la Prère was the BIS winner under Norman Deschuymere at the successful Brussels International show last weekend, writes Vince Hogan.

This three year old bitch is an Italian and International champion and now a Belgian champion. She is owned by Louis de Liedekerke and Costanza Ferraris, seen here handling the dog. Reserve BIS was the Maltese Multi Champion Epice des Supers Supers who last week also went
Res BIS at the French National in Lyon.

A number of UK exhibitors and trade stands attended the show which is due to move in 2009 back to its traditional December date. It is hoped that this move will attract a great local crowd for Christmas shopping at the show, based in the Heysel exhibition halls.

Regrettably President of the club Fred Denayer was taken to hospital on Sunday after feeling unwell and OUR DOGS sends
best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Waterproof dog beds help fight allergies and create an impermeable barrier to keep mites etc out of the interior of the dog’s bed, this in turn effectively removes the food source for allergy-causing dust mites that can irritate your dog. Moisture is efficiently sealed out from wet dogs or dogs with bladder control problems, therefore eliminating odour.
